Land of the Lost: Chapter 4
04 | Out of Reach
Arresting Sylus is Myer’s greatest goal. He used to think every Astral Enforcer shared this same goal, but a cryptic smile appeared on his commanding officer’s face.
“Young man, it’s good to dream.”
In time, he understood what his boss meant— it’s better to admire dreams from afar.
Yet the fire in Myer’s heart still hasn’t been fully extinguished. If an Enforcer had once thrown Sylus into the space-time prison, why can’t he be the one to throw this fugitive back in again?
The time Myer came closest to capturing Sylus was in the capital of Philos. Perhaps it was because Sylus believed “the most dangerous place is always the safest” that Philos’s most criminal brazenly appeared in public.
But soon enough, Myer realized that Sylus didn’t even consider or see those trying to arrest him as a threat.
In the face of terrifying power, the carefully prepared traps set by the Enforcers were like spider webs, easily torn apart with the lightest tug. Some squad members whose minds were invaded sunk into a disoriented state for a long time and finally left the field completely.
After that, word of Sylus’s sightings drifted through every interplanetary corner of the galaxy like black fog. Each sighting was accompanied by widely known crimes. Although these crimes were unbelievable, they miraculously never impacted the lives of ordinary space citizens, and as a result became mythologized as legends. So, for most Astral Enforcers, capturing Sylus became a dream that they could only ever imagine but never achieve.
When reports arrive about a possible Sylus sighting near Feathers Star, not a single Enforcer in the fleet except Myer seems keen on pursuing it. Star is a planet that has been overrun by crime and overtaken by criminals, and the Astral Enforcers have always steered clear of it. While it may be possible to bring a single criminal to justice, Enforcers wouldn’t be able to easily interfere with an entire group of evildoers who have climbed to the very peak of power.
In the end, Myer can only secretly enter Feathers Star on his own accord, and the first thing that strikes him is the astonishing number of ships lined up at the port.
“These all belong to the High Lords who are waiting in line to present the Overlord with a present. I don’t know where they raided to secure such rich gifts. The number of ships this year is several times greater than in previous years,” the port official grumbles.
Myer frowns. The other man’s careless remark of “raiding” means that countless planets and regions were pillaged.
At that very moment, a squad of fully armed Feathers Star soldiers storm into the port. “By the Overlord’s orders, these ships are now under full military control.”
Once the Overlord’s command seal is verified by the system, the official watches with deference as the soldiers board each ship one at a time.
“The High Lords must be throwing quite the party for the Overlord’s birthday. I envy them. You know, I wonder if I’ll ever get a shot at attending his birthday in my lifetime…” The official casts a wistful glance at the Overlord’s fortress in the distance, his expression filled with longing.
