Snow's Embrace: Chapter 3
MC: He really was too much that time, don’t you agree?
My thoughts returned to the present. I watch Little Bai Ze play in the water as I talk to it.
MC: Though even now, it’s not like he’s grown any gentler.
Afterwards, Zayne tacitly allowed me to remain, and truly did teach me how to control my spiritual energy.
Though, even after spending such a long time together, I still don’t really understand him.
MC: Right, don’t you Bai Ze know everything?
MC: Then, do you know what Zayne is thinking about right now? Or rather, what does he like, what does he want?
MC: I said I wasn’t going to waste his time teaching me. I want to reciprocate somehow. Only then will my heart be at ease.
MC: …what are you glaring at me for?
I’m being glared at by Little Bai Ze for no reason. Turning my gaze behind me, not far away, the flower tree is in radiant full bloom.
MC: (Oh, right, he’s always cared a lot about this tree. Why don’t I help him care for it a bit?)
I recall there is a in the heart of the mountain. Recently while I was taking care of the flower tree, I actually found the egg of a beneath the tree.
It’s said that spirit snakes can protect divine trees and all kinds of grass, so I keep it by my side and let Big Hua incubate it.
But when the time finally arrives for it to hatch, the little snake slithers out from the fragments, and , it fiercely bites my fingertip.
MC: Ow… why so fierce, huh?
The newborn spirit snake wraps around my finger. For some unknown reason, after biting down, it greedily refuses to let go.
Less than a moment later, it suddenly falls to the ground. Its body unexpectedly swells to in length, and its bloody maw gapes open as it erupts into a frenzy.
MC: Not good—
I hastily rush before the Divine Tree, and using what Zayne had taught me, raise a barrier.
After seeing that even the crown of the tree has been completely enveloped, I turn around to deal with the approaching large snake.
MC: Still dare to act arrogant? I didn’t endure all that in vain!
Now I use spiritual energy as easily as lifting an arm or a finger. While fighting, I can even spare some power to send away the birds and beasts that haven’t already fled.
Very quickly, I strike the deranged monster snake’s weak spot, but before I have a chance to rejoice, I see Big Hua burst out from a corner.
MC: Big Hua!
The big snake’s spent tail comes towards Big Hua’s head, but it seems I won’t make it in time—
Zayne: Stand back.
Cold ice suddenly freezes the giant snake. An expanse of white covers my vision, and I’m instantly enveloped by clean, cold qi.
A crisp, sharp shattering sound rings out. I poke my head out from behind his sleeve. The giant snake has already disintegrated into fine dust.
Zayne: What happened?
I lift my head and look up at Zayne’s profile.
MC: I found a spirit snake and originally wanted to let it help nurture the tree, but as soon as it broke through its shell, there was something wrong with it.
Big Hua lets out a loud sneeze, lowers her head and sniffs all around the surrounding area once, then listlessly ambles over to rub against my hand.
MC: It… The snake egg was incubated by Big Hua… She’s probably a little sad…
MC: But, don’t you worry, I protected the tree and the surrounding area very well—
I turn my head to look. The table under the tree that Zayne often sits at has already been overturned. Countless bamboo slips lie strewn in a chaotic heap.
MC: ….ah.
MC: I’m sorry! I’ll definitely help you clean this up!
I know far too well how important these bamboo slips are to Zayne. In an instant, all my turns into
Zayne: Are you hurt?
I draw back my fingertips.
MC: No.
Zayne: Even so, go rest for a bit. I’ll handle things here.
MC: But this happened because of me. I really can’t just ignore it. Besides, I’m free anyway…
Zayne: Your Big Hua follows you because of your power. Just now, that snake went into a frenzy for the same reason.
Zayne: The same cause bore a . So, this is unrelated to you.
Zayne: Rather than blaming yourself, why not take care of that injury on your fingertip first?
There is no way to hide anything in front of Zayne, so I can only sigh and leave.
Never mind helping him—not being misunderstood by him is enough to make me thank Heaven and Earth.
After an indeterminate time passes, the mountain recovers its serene silence.
I curl up motionlessly on the couch, listening to the bells on the curtain ringing softly, the sound of rustling outside.
MC: Little Bai, you don’t need to worry… I’ll be fine after being upset for a little bit…
The surroundings fall silent for a moment, but before long, the bells ring again—and something also pats me.
MC: I’m really fine—just don’t bother me!
The movement outside pauses briefly, then shifts position and resumes patting me. I squeeze my eyes shut even tighter in exasperation.
Zayne: Where do you feel discomfort?
Zayne: You have plenty of spiritual energy, you haven’t sustained any injuries. Then…
Zayne: Is it simply that you in your sleep?
Zayne: Come.
Kindled
Zayne: Ridiculous.
Zayne: Don’t move, there are a few strands of hair wrapped around my hand.
Zayne: Even your hair has your temperament. It looks soft, but once it , it’s hard to untangle.
Zayne: Since you’re up, go and clean up the aftermath.
Zayne: I’ll wait beneath the tree for you.
